Nihongo
I must say I had a very limited Japanese skill set when I left and it has not gone better with time! I’ve actually now forgotten my ideograms which is actually very upsetting considering how hard I had worked on it back in Shanghai… I do believe I need to get some mandarin classes in SF.
So basically I’ve been like a “vaca gaijin” when by myself… at least unlike in Italy where everybody assumed I was Italian and wouldn’t understand the puzzled look on my face when they’d blab along in Italian to me, in Japan it was understood it was highly unlikely I’d understand much. So I did remember the difficulty of ordering food and the relief of going out with someone who could order!
Chaya cafe in Loft offers a very decent lunch set with an english menu and no tourist!
Korean restaurant in Akasaka – I love Korean food and unfortunately I have not found one good Korean restaurant in San Francisco
